Online Outreach for Reforestation Efforts in Haiti
The Society for the Reforestation of Haiti [La Société pour le Reboisement d’Haïti] (SRH) is a nonprofit, non-governmental organisation founded in 1987. The organisation’s goals are to:
• Educate in matters of reforestation and deforestation
• Protect the already fragile environment of Haïti
• Promote economic growth alongside a sustainable solution to deforestation.
It has as its main focus, the reforestation of Haïti, which currently counts 30% of its land as forested. This low figure is due to many social, political and economic factors, starting as early as during the Atlantic Slave Trade.
The organisation was co-founded by Gérard Tassy, my grandfather. I took it as my mission, both as an homage to my country and to my heritage, to help the organisation by redesigning its website. It was important for me to not paint the situation as helpless, but instead hopeful and resourceful. This project uses the context of UN Sustainable Development Goal 15.
